Hello Lamb Fans!
We've been quiet - but with good reason. Dale has been baling a substantial hay crop, as that is what feeds the sheep when they grass doesn't grow! I (Charlotte), and most of the kids have just finished a season of summer camp - close to home, but it feels like a million miles away from farm life. The freezer inventory has been lower than our usual. You may have known that the last lamb crop lacked numbers, and the demand for good lamb is high! We have been keeping up with our retailers and customer orders.
Will we be returning to Regina Farmers' Market? You bet! Date to be announced yet, so watch our social media for those announcements. Our return is getting closer! As of right now, we are still waiting on a restock of sausage and snack stix - which we know our market-goers love!
Minor detail, but we cancelled our landline! This is (was!) the number posted on our web-site, invoices, business cards (along with our cel numbers), etc. Since everyone in our household now carries a phone in their pocket and the majority of calls on our landline were scammers, we eliminated the extra bill and hassle - like so many others! We're still here though!
A big thing that happened this week - we seeded some pasture. I've no doubt we are way more excited about this than anyone reading about it, but it has been at the top of our wishlist for a few years now, as soon as conditions and finances allowed. We needed sufficient feed available to replace the 35 acres we were ripping up and prepping for a beautiful grazing mix. After a substantial rain earlier this week, we were able to skim the seeds of orchard grass, timothy, sainfoin, white clover, alfalfa, & meadow brome grass into the ground. It will take our rotational grazing to another level, with other benefits of parasite management and continued soil enrichment - all for the health of our flock.
And lastly, for the customers that have purchased chicken/turkeys that our kids have raised in other years? Unfortunately, we do not have a supply to sell in 2024. Our kids who have made this their project for years have other pursuits and jobs right now. It has always been fully on them to manage and labour over, and they just aren't home enough anymore.
See you soon!
